Support & Commemoration.
West Moreton Anglican College is the school of choice for more than 80 Australian Defence Force families.
Our College community recognises the unique challenges of military life and the sacrifices our Defence families make in service to our nation.
WestMAC’s pastoral care team includes a dedicated Defence School Mentor to assist Defence families, particularly during transitions between schools or during parental absence due to deployment.
Our support of Defence families includes:
- Assisting children and families to integrate into the College and local community
- Coordinating appropriate welcome and farewell activities
- Smoothing the transition from school to school and between different education systems (including minimising the impact of relocation on learning outcomes)
- Monitoring the social, emotional and academic wellbeing of Defence students
- Helping students develop self-confidence, self-reliance and resilience
- Referring students to services, or school and community programs that meet their needs
- Enhancing awareness and appreciation of the unique Defence lifestyle in schools and communities
- Providing support to children during times of parental absence
The College commemorates significant events throughout the year, including Anzac Day and Remembrance Day, and is also home to 225 Australian Air Force Cadet Squadron, which is administered and actively supported by the Royal Australian Air Force.
Delivered as part of the College’s extra-curricular program, the Squadron aims to teach members leadership, self-reliance, confidence, teamwork and communication skills. Cadets have the opportunity to participate in flying and fieldcraft activities, adventure training, navigation, drill, ceremonial and community service events, along with special school holiday programs at nearby Amberley Air Force Base.
WestMAC’s close links with our serving and former Defence families continue to enrich our College community, contributing to an inclusive and nurturing school environment, and encouraging our students to become kind, courageous and engaged global citizens.
