Creative collaboration
The WestMAC Dance Program offers excellent public dance performance opportunities for Year 4 to 6 students in the JS Crew, Year 7 to 9 students in the Dance Troupe, and Year 10 to 12 students in the Dance Company.
These extra-curricular groups develop their dance performance skills in a range of genre such as Contemporary Dance, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre and Jazz. Entry into these groups is through successful audition at the beginning of each school year.
Participation in the Dance Company or Dance Troupe is a large undertaking, requiring students to be prepared to dedicate their time, energy and enthusiasm to weekly rehearsals outside of school hours. In addition to the rehearsals, WestMAC Dance participates in many local and regional eisteddfods and performances throughout the year.
Involvement in Dance at WestMAC enhances students’ social, emotional, physical and intellectual capacities through fun, safe and creative practical experiences that give them lasting memories.
Lifelong skills developed through students’ involvement in the WestMAC Dance program include:
- Team work and collaboration
- Perseverance and self-discipline
- Personal presentation and attention to detail
- Analytical, critical and research skills
- Resilience and the ability to cope with criticism and learn from it.
